St. Mary’s Cement Supports Michigan Loons

StM13These pictures show the employees of St. Mary’s Cement building loon nesting rafts to be used on Northern Michigan lakes where loons have lost nest habitat or experienced nest problems. Owner Dirk Cox funds the project fully and Carol Kay Hobbs coordinates the effort and delivers the raft to Petoskey, where the rafts go out to lakes in need.

In 2014, these rafts have been installed on Lancaster, Round, Munro, Burt, Crooked, Pickerel, and Walloon Lakes. Help is always welcome in this effort and volunteers are needed to install and remove rafts each season.
